Support of the Port Vila Hospital & Chapel
Melanie planned to go to America in November 2001 but unfortunately the trip was cancelled after the attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York on September 11. The trip was again cancelled in 2002 after the Bali bombings. Melanie was disappointed that these opportunities to travel overseas were thwarted.
In the January of 2003, Libb and Melanie set off for Vanuatu. Libb had been studying Exercise Physiology in Ballarat and had organised a placement at the Port Vila Central Hospital. Melanie was excited to be able to go with her, but with some trepidation, set off for Port Vila.
The following article, 'Melanie's Gift' was published in The Lutheran, a periodical magazine of the Lutheran Church of Australia in November 2006. This was just after 46 of her family and friends travelled to Vanuatu to work on the Melanie Jewson Memorial Chapel at the Port Vila Hospital in Vanuatu, a place that became very close to Melanie's heart, and a place that will now, always remain close to ours.
